Better Stands

Exhibiting sustainably at Fi Europe

Better Stands at Fi Europe

At Fi Europe, your stand is your identity, built to capture the attention of thousands of attendees looking to connect with their next business partner. And we’re proud to offer you a platform to create these invaluable connections and showcase your brand. We’re also conscious of the waste that comes from ‘single-use’ stands.

We’ve introduced our Better Stands initiative to move away from disposable stands in favour of re-usable or recyclable structures at our events. We believe that we can work together with you and your contractors to eliminate considerable waste while still giving you an unparalleled exhibiting experience.

Why ‘Better Stands’?

Move away from single-use stands
Single use stands are space only builds that are used only once and create environmental and health and safety issues onsite.
Switch to reusable stands
Switching to reusable stands where all core elements are reusable reduces waste and ensures safer, smoother and stress-free build & breakdown.
Built for the future
The Better Stands vision
There are no shortcuts to sustainability, and the only way to get there is by working together with our entire F&B community. To make things easier, we have introduced different tiers of Better Stands for space only stands. We recommend that space only exhibitors work towards achieving at least Bronze status in 2024. So, now is the time to have a conversation with your contractor about moving towards a sustainable solution. All space only stands are independently verified at the end of the event to determine their individual level.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions from exhibitors and contractors
What is Better Stands and why was it created?

Better Stands celebrates exhibitors along with their appointed contractors who choose to build reusable stands at our events. Reusable stands provide a myriad of improvements to our events which include:

  • They use higher quality materials, that do not produce carcinogenic dust like disposable stands do
  • They are much easier to assemble and dismantle, which means less frequent requests for late working and early access, and require fewer move-in days
  • Reusable stands also are not typically constructed at height, which means fewer workplace accidents
  • They produce much less waste than disposable stands, which reduces exhibitor and contractor waste bills
  • All of this leads to a much better customer experience for our exhibitors

What is a disposable stand?

When we talk about disposable stands, we mean single use, disposable stands made from raw materials onsite, such as chipboard, particleboard, or low-density fibreboard (LDF) or MDF.

What does reusable mean?

Reusable means that the item has been, or will be, used again for the purposes it was built for.   This is a subtle but important difference from recycling.  Any process that ‘downgrades’ the material, so called downcycling, would not be considered reusable.  Example if flooring is of wood pellets for incineration or if ceiling fabric is used as rags.

How is the Better Stands Audit completed?

There are 3 touchpoints where the audit is undertaken by our nominated Sustainability audit team – pre-show during the design submission phase; on-site during the build-up period and finally on-site during the breakdown period. Each space only stand is checked against a checklist of 10 elements

The initial ratings will be emailed to the appointed contractor’s better stand contact of each stand, together with the full audit report following the event. The contractor will then be given the ‘opportunity to review’ the rating and provide further evidence if they do not feel that the audit results are correct. Following the ‘Opportunity to review’ window, additional evidence will be reviewed before final ratings are shared with each exhibitor together in the form of certificate.

What about shell scheme or Modular Stand Design stands?

These are already compliant with our sustainability measures. Better Stands is targeted at space only builds, which historically create the most waste.
